"Boy Digging" illustration from Nancy Standlee for my "Dreams of the Turtle King" beach poem book.
The poem is BOY DIGGING and the illustration is for a stanza in the poem ...
"A boy is digging deep
into the sand..."
This is one of the first poems I wrote on my morning walks. What really caught my eye at first was how he looked to be swallowed by the hole he was digging. Then it was the fact that his shirt matched the color of the beach blanket on the sand next to the hole.
Oh the times where all you had on your list of to do's was to play in the sand, digging holes and building sand castles!

The poem is BUFFET...
"Buffet" illustration from Nancy Standlee for my "Dreams of the Turtle King" beach poem book.
The poem is Buffet and the illustration is for a stanza in the poem ...
"The seagulls gather together
on the water, patiently
riding the waves..."
It was always entertaining to watch the seagulls at the beach. Most of the time you would see them flying in the air or fighting with each other on the beach for scraps. This morning was unique in that they had gathered together on the water and were just sitting there, riding the waves together silently and without commotion.
Boy Digging 13094, Watercolor, a Beach Illustration for the Book Dreams of the Turtle King by Bossarte and Standlee.
I have made 24 watercolor illustrations for the book of poetry, Dreams of the Turtle King, written
by Denise Bossarte, and available in December on Amazon. Denise informs
me the book is moving forward on schedule and I've sent her my bio and a
profile image. Here is one of the images you will find in the book. I
would read the poem and come up with a visual image for the
illustration, send it to Denise for approval or suggestions.

But speaking of workshops, I was interviewed by Leslie Saeta and co-host, Margaret Sheldon, Thursday, November 14, on her weekly talk show, Blog Talk Radio, Artists Helping Artists and I discuss how I get the most out of a workshop. I love taking workshops and took about 14 in 2012 and 7 in 2013. I've stopped counting the total number since 2002.

I am working through the iterative process of editing and submitting my book through the "format" review process online. The online "format" review can take up to 24 hours, so it is a relatively slow go. Some challenges with MS Word and how it wants to deal with the images. But, I will not be denied!

Book formatting work in progress...
Nancy's illustrations have been scanned.
The printer I took them to freaked out a bit when doing the scanning because I requested a very high dpi for the images, which led to very large file sizes. Better to have all that data up front so you can shrink it down later!
My graphic artist friend who is helping with the cover design said I could always put the images up on a highway billboard if I needed to, they were so large. LOL
I am working with another friend who has a best selling amazon title he self-published, The Gift by Dave Donovan. He is helping me get through all the steps it takes to get the book together and get it uploaded for proofing and then get a kindle version made as well. Yep, both kindle and regular soft copy books of 6x9 size are going to be available for sale!!
More work on the book tomorrow!

The poem is POSSIBILITIES...

The poem is POSSIBILITIES and the illustration is for a stanza in the poem ...
"Walking along
the beach,
the waves crash..."
This poem will be in the "Thoughts I Found on the Beach" section of the book which has poems that deal with more contemplative aspects of my walks.
It is very easy to become contemplative when walking under a big sky by the ocean, feeling the rhythm of the waves and experiencing the transiency of it all. Everything changes at the beach: the number of clouds, the amount of sunlight, the presence and strength of the wind, the types of waves, the color of the water,...
Two things that was generally true were that the beach was certainly less crowded and also less noisy at sunrise!
